December 22, 2014
Greetings to all!
As the end of 2014 approaches, we wanted to take the time to inform all of our members of upcoming changes to the IHDA. The organization has now been in existence for 11 years. In that time, it has slowly developed from an idea to a viable organization that both brings together Hustle Dance enthusiasts, and has managed to quantify and bring structure to our competitive dance circuit.
As the years have passed, we have tried to hone in on the things we feel will help us to further our mission. Some ideas have worked quite well, and others we have felt the need to move in another direction.
After reviewing our status both financially, and in a general sense of wanting to increase awareness, the board has decided to move forward with the following changes:
A. Membership and Dues: We will no longer keep a system of Membership and Dues. To this end, we will be opening up a general website that will be open to the general public. This website will report on our Sanctioned Events, and also act as an open forum for Hustle enthusiasts from all over the world to share information. We hope that by opening up the website, it will boost interest in the dance
B. Meet and Greet Parties: As we will no longer be collecting yearly dues, we will no longer be sponsoring Meet and Greets at events. If someone decides they would like to support the IHDA (which is a not for profit organization) by sponsoring a Meet and Greet, please contact us and we will be delighted to set up a party!
C. Point System: We will continue to offer sanctioned events and a point system. All Jack & Jills will now incur a $1 surcharge to be collected into a Winner's Pot that will be issued to Winners 1 through 6 of the point system. Money will be distributed on a decreasing scale for places 1 through 6, but by doing this, we give more people an opportunity to win.
D. Website: We will now be offering a Website that is open to the general public. It will consist of Blogs, Articles about our Sanctioned Events, and Videos. We will also list sanctioned events, and display our Rules and Regulations. We are trying to create more of an open forum, which we hope people will post to from around the globe as our international awareness increases.
Our website is being re-created as a virtually Fee Free site, costing IHDA only $5 per month. This is so we can run the site without having to rely on outside advertisements and can fully dedicate our content to our cause:
Boosting Awareness of Hustle.
We will also be setting up a Facebook fan page. Please like us!!
We will have a page on the site for donations. Remember, as there are no more yearly dues, the IHDA will be very appreciative to anything people are able to donate to help further the cause.
E. Education and Certification: For people looking to further their education and help bring others on board, we will be offering the Bronze Manual on the site for purchase.
F. Event Sanctioning: Our requirements for sanctioned events will be reduced to $200 per calendar year, but other than that, our requirements to have a Sanctioned event will remain.
I. Newsletter: We will be sending out a newsletter 1 time per month, and will offer a "Subscribe to" icon on our website. So if you have friends who are not currently members, they will now be able to stay informed about activity in the Hustle Dance Community.
A general note, as your President, I am pleased to say that awareness of our dance has been raising on an International Level. As I travelled the world this year, we have found awareness of our dance now in many unexpected places! In the last year, Hustle Classes were requested in: India, the Phillipines, Trinidad, Spain, Italy, various cities across Canada, Guatemala. And to that end:
IHDA Italia held it's second championship in September of 2014.
Canada has also been having more increased awareness, and the Canada Salsa Congress has hosted its Hustle "Room" for the 3rd Year in a row.
Spain has now become part of the IHDA over in Europe, and we now have some certified instructors in that country!
We hear through the grapevine that there are also some things happening in the UK, and we also get requests from other spots.
With all of this being said, the phrase that comes to mind is "Stay the Course!"
From the Committee of the IHDA, and myself, we wish you a Happy Holiday Season, and a successful 2015!
Billy Fajardo, your IHDA President
